Runway 34 movie review: Ajay Devgn manages to deliver a somewhat effective pre-interval portion despite its inelegant, underlined bits; but the film plummets as the curse of second-half hits.
Runway 34 movie cast: Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Aakansha Singh, Angira Dhar, Ajey Nagar
Runway 34 movie director: Ajay Devgn
Runway 34 movie rating: 2.5 stars
Runway 34, featuring actor Ajay Devgn, created a stir on Tuesday as the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) said that the film portrays pilots in an unrealistic way. FIP Secretary Captain CS Randhawa issued a statement slamming the film. The statement also said that pilots are ‘committed to abiding by the highest standards of professionalism. It also added that the aviation industry has a ‘zero-tolerance policy towards deviant behavior and substance abuse.
Directed by Ajay, Runway 34 also features Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh. Runway 34 is a story based on a flight from Doha to Kochi, that had crash-landed due to poor visibility in August 2015, killing several passengers.
Now after a three-week run, the collections of Runway 34 are rather dismal. Collecting a further Rs. 2.97 cr in week three the total collections of the Ajay Devgn starrer are currently pegged at just Rs. 32.22 cr. Surprisingly, Runway 34 which came with quite a bit of hype did not really connect with the audience, this lack of a connection coupled with the fact that new releases in the subsequent weeks ate majorly into the film’s audience share went a long way in denting its overall collections.
Going forward, with two new releases this week in the form of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Dhaakad the business of Runway 34 is not expected to pick up. As per trade predictions, the film could end its theatrical run with a collection figure hovering around the Rs. 35 cr mark.
